Rep. Mike Pence: Israel should dictate U.S. policy

Matt Duss flagged this video of Rep. Mike Pence (R-Indiana), a senior member of the Republican leadership in the U.S. House of Representatives, talking to the Christian Broadcasting Network about why he unquestioningly supports Israel.

Pence is literally saying, Israeli officials should tell us what they want us to do, and we'll support it. That's an insane premise, and if you replace "Israel" with any other country, no U.S. politician would accept it.

I'm pretty pessimistic about Obama's Middle East policies -- but it's worth remembering that Obama has to work within the confines of the U.S. political system, and there's broad bipartisan consensus for Pence's views on Israel (as he notes in the video).

Talk about cognitive dissonance. First he says a "broker doesn't take sides" then he explicitly states that we must make it clear that "America is on the side of Israel." Apparently he's only saying a "broker doesn't take sides with Palestinians".... because, of course, that would be "wrong."

This isn't the least bit surprising however, as someone who grew up in a quite Evangelical Christian atmosphere, the unquestioning support Israel is given by the likes of him is entirely within the norm of those beliefs. What's sad is the amount of power people like him hold on this issue DESPITE the fact that I can bet all my money he's never given it an honest, critical and in depth analysis as long he has lived and likely never will. That's the ignorance reasonable people are up against, and I'm afraid to say, I'm not sure it can be defeated in even a marginal way.

I try to remember how the US has benefited from Israel in any way. Kind of like that tumor I had.

It's simply amazing how many US government officials advocate treason these days. I guess we'll be seeing that a lot more now that the Supreme Court has declared our national elections to be auctions instead.

Blaine, I think the message he was trying to convey is that the US should NOT be considered a "broker" when dealing with the Middle Eastern states. He took issue with that, his belief being that when it comes to relations with Israel the US should be an unquestioning supporter of their "best interests". He didn't actually contradict himself in that particular instance, even though he's quite possibly struggling to come to grips with his very sanity.

There are many words I could write about this particular subject, but the bottom line is that we as tax-paying citizens of the US with the right to vote are ultimately responsible for those we so carelessly elect to public office. As a people, WE have the power to affect change, but only if we truly seek it. Only REAL effort will bring that about.

The unfortunate reality is, however, that we will never demand TRUE accountability from our "elected" leaders or demand that the mechanism of the system change so that this type of utter nonsense comes to an end. I guess as a whole we're content to continuously allow these power-hungry thieves to take office and pervert the laws and Constitutional precepts of this nation to appease the agendas of their contributors or satisfy their own twisted religious beliefs.

Evidently the common man or woman can't be bothered with concern over something as trivial as the running of our nation. We're content to let the insane run the asylum... for is it not a symptom of clinical insanity when reason and rationale have abandoned one's judgment?

When a politician can base his actions within the government on a religious faith, a belief that actually has no foundations in observable factual evidence, and we as a people permit him to stay on and continue this nonsense, then maybe we no longer should have the right to complain about it. We deserve what we get. We, are ultimately to blame. I'm not trying to begin a debate about religious preferences with anyone, but they should be entirely absent from political decision making. We will never move forward as a society until this becomes a reality.

What bothers me most is the assumption by the government and the general media that the citizenry are all asleep. There are plenty of us out here that can see straight through the veil of deceit. Stop wasting our time disseminating nonsense about how the US government is concerned with "justice". This is farcical. They should call it like it is.

This is what happens when Americans feel that it's too
much trouble to get actively involved with their government.
Americans can continue to sit on the sidelines and pay the
consequences. Your children and grandchildren will lose
their lives fighting for another country's national interests.

Are you a Diebold electronic voting machine? No? Then you elected nobody. Instead you participated in a charade.

Pence's comments on CBN border on Moronic. How do we elect people like him? Another pretty face?

As we struggle as "human beings" to keep our freedom of speech, we encounter "bumps" in the road such as this man. If nothing else, He convinces one to fight harder and push on, lest all we have is people like him making decisions for mankind. "What a scary thought"

Nothing will change as long as you fools believe the electroniK voting fraud is legitimate. The best thing you can do at this point in a non violent fashion is to get in the faces of elected people in public and make fun of them. Laugh at them. Belittle them with facts. Challenge them and film it.

they dictate already

Astonishing: Pence has only received $57,750 from Israel's lackeys so far. (According to http://www.washington-report.org/archives/November_2008/pdfs/nov08pac-charts.pdf .)

What a pitiful display of slavery and desperation, this is unbelievable, I am bewildered at this display of whorish submission to a foreign entity!!!
I was rally embarrassed listening to this guy, can you be more obvious?
What do the people of E.Indiana give a hoot about Israel?
That was an embarrassment and I call on his constituent to demand his immediate removal from office for treason, lack of decency and prejudice.

How can Israel be a "sovereign" country when they have STILL not adopted a Constitution, which they were supposed to have done what...50-60 years ago?

As if it doesn't do that already. Someone who calls for a foreign country (no matter how ''close'') to dictate its wishes on foreign policies to them is either out of his mind or under some kind of 'sexual blackmail'. Not even the most ardent por-American in the UK government will accept this crass.

Please, go where your heart and wallet comes from, move to Isreal.
Hopefully the voters will help this clown make that decision.

This bigot is a moron. He talks about the US siding with justice but supports injustice to the Palestinians. He is not a Christian.

What it sounds like he's saying to me is- "Brokers are unbiased. But Americans can't be unbiased. We have to get these evil terrorists/middle-easterners, because they're bad, but Israel never does anything wrong."

As Joe Biden wraps up his Middle East tour, Palestinian officials say they're unwilling to move forward with proximity talks unless Israel cancels its new construction in East Jerusalem; and the Israeli Defense Forces have sealed off the West Bank for 48 hours, reportedly for security concerns. Several people were injured and arrested in fighting at the Al-Aqsa mosque this morning.

A handful of insurgent attacks around the country killed two dozen people, but Iraqi security forces seemed generally confident; the vehicle ban in Baghdad, scheduled to last all day, was lifted before noon. Anecdotal reports suggest a strong turnout across the country.
