Monday: Mousavi appears, thousands rally in Tehran
Flickr user Mousavi1388, who has posted a continuous stream of pictures from inside Iran during the past three days, posted this picture of Mir Hossein Mousavi today. It was Mousavi's first public appearance since the Friday election.
Note on photo: Flickr user Mousavi 1388 posted that pic, but judging from this photo currently up on the NY Times site, I believe the credit should go to Behrouz Mehri of Agence France-Presse.
Update 2: CNN confirms that Mousavi is indeed at the rally. This is his first public appearance since the election results were released on Friday.
Update: We've added a photograph from the protests (h/t Rashn).
Original post: Tens of thousands of people -- and that may be quite a low estimate -- are rallying on the streets of Tehran right now, despite a government ban on today's protest. There are rumors that Mousavi himself might be at the rally, though we can't confirm.
There isn't much the Revolutionary Guard can do to control a crowd of that size -- short of brute force. And there's a particularly alarming report from the BBC on that subject:
The BBC's Jon Leyne, in Tehran, says he understands plain-clothed militias have been authorised to use live ammunition for the first time.
The Interior Ministry is calling the protesters "seditious elements," upping the rhetoric from yesterday, when Tehran's deputy police chief said some of the protesters "have criminal records."
